Colin
Pitter, musically known as Jahlin, was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. Arriving to Canada for the first time in
the fall of 1975, Jahlin utilize the next four years to further his education. In 1979 he graduated from highschool majoring
in welding and was awarded a secondary school diploma.
During the years of 1979-1981 Jaholin
worked in Toronto as a welder. His musical career was also beginning to emerge then and he spent the majority of his free
time writing poetry and chanting. Also at the time, R.zee Jackson which is a school mate and a scout leader from back in Jamaica
that he link up with in Toronto, stage name Esso Jackson, played percussion and was also back up vocalist with Leroy Sibbles
band "Ital Groove". Under the guidance of R. Zee Jahlin began to learn the organization of chorus and verse. Music soon became
a fulltime occupation for Jahlin and he began helping out around " Ital Groove Band ", with stage shows and sounds and a little
performance here and there.
In 1980, Gregory Frank, a Toronto
based musician originally from Trinidad was working with a reggae band named Joshua. On Gregory recomendation the members
of Joshua asked Jahlin to join them. It was with Joshua that Jahlin performed in Toronto on stage as concert hall for the
first time. During the same year Jahlin continued to work with Joshua performing frequently in Toronto and Quebec City at
such places as the Drake Hotel, Rivole and Larry's HideAway.
Jahlin musical career continued to
move forward and in early 1982 he recorded his first 2 singles under his own label Blak Ekho. The songs titled " Roots Reality
", and " Mystic " which was pre released during the year of 1982, Jahlin left Joshua Band and started spending time with Anthony
Hibert, Jahlin and some other Brethren formed a new band called Tri-Star Rockers. Tri-Star Rockers performed regularily in
TOronto at places such as Hotel ISabella, Cameron House, Wilson Club Lansdown, Seneca COllege and lots of other outdoor community
events, shows all over Quebec, especially Rising Sun in Montreal.
Justice Hi-Power was formed in 1985
by Anthony Hibert. Jahlin again teamed up with Anthony in Justice, where he continued vocally and even played some percussions
while he increased performance and talent. And also later the same year Jahlin moved to Ottawa the Capital to further his
career by braodening his experience and exposure with the public. Jahlin began first by making special guest appearances with
local Ottawa bands. There is a festival in Ottawa called " Ottawa remembers Bob Marley and since 1984 Jahlin has been partaking
in this reggae festival. His first appearance in the festival was with Roots Movement band at the fourth annual Remembrance
of Bob Marley Reggae festival.
Jahlin later performed with Garnet
CHallenger and the Connection Band at 2 outdoor concerts in Calabogie and Smiths Falls. Jahlin also did lots more shows with
Connections around Ottawa-Montreal and Toronto. These vibrant and other spectacular guest appearances brought on a demand
for Jahlin and Justice High-Power to perform along with 3 other reggae bands at a benefit tribute to Africa titled " Fall
Splash 1986 " at Barrymores in Ottawa. Since that time Jahlin has continued to work with ROots Movement Band and the Connection
Band in Ottawa.
In 1989 Jahlin released his first
album called " Dominant Root Culture " on an independant label called " Black Gold ". Since then Jahlin has been around Canada
especially in Montreal. In February 1991, Jahlin along with Mango reggae band performed an opening act for Culture Reggae
Band from Jamaica. Later that month Jahlin also did another opening act for " Aswad Reggae Band from England. All these performances
took place in Montreal at RIsing Sun.
In Ottawa during the summer of 1993
Jahlin performed along with Roots Movement Band at the Ottawa National Exhibition. In the year of 1994 Jahlin performed in
the " Ottawa remembers Bob Marley " reggae festival for hos eleventh appearance. It was a great event as Jahlin was interviewed
live by McLean Hunter Cable Television. His exuberant and exciting performances have been seen on various television networks
throughout Ontario and Quebec etc. Jahlin now stationed in Toronto, is working on his album cd. In 1996 Jahlin released his
second album called " Passing Through " on his own independant label Blak Ekho.
In the fall of 2002 Jahlin released
2 more singles titled " Vampire " and " Experience ". All these songs were picked up by CBC movie making people, for background
music in the movie titled Chasing Cain Two Face. Which was made in Toronto, the connection for Jahlin two songs to be in the
movie is all through Slamm Recording Studio and Sam Weller. In the fall of 2003 Jahlin released his third album titled " Experience
" again on his label Blak Ekho. This cd was done at Slamm Recording Studio by " Sam Welller " and crew, except for 2 tracks
which was done in Jamaica at Anchor Recording Studio engineered by Delroy ( Dr. Marshall) Harris, and the tracks were played
by Sly and Robbie and crew. Jahlin is now still working out of Slamm on his next couple of singles for 2007 titled Miracle
Man and HighGrade Caleebud, which should be released in ENgland first on radio stations etc.
In the year 2004, Jahlin was nominated
into the Canadian REggae Music Awards in 2 categories. Top male vocal and Top cd of the year. Jahlin also went to visit his
son's grade 4 class in Arnprior Ontario, to lecture to the grade 4 class students about his nusic and even performed for them
in 2005. The teacher even recorded Jahlin singing for the grade 4 students, while they were all singing backup vocal with
Jahlin. Jahlin took the tape to the studio and made a cd for the class. That cd was even on sale at the school to benefit
Ethiopia and Africa.
